Royal Mail Introduces Parcel Postboxes in Dagenham & Rainham

Royal Mail is introducing the UK's first ever parcel postboxes in areas across the UK, including Dagenham and Rainham. This follows a successful trial in the LE and NN postcode areas last year which has now led to plans for 1,400 parcel postboxes to be rolled out in total.

The launch marks the first major change in postbox usage in its 160-year history. The parcel postboxes will enable small businesses and marketplace sellers in Dagenham and Rainham to post pre-paid parcels, using Click&Drop, through postboxes the same way they currently post letters.

The first phase of the launch will see pre-existing meter postboxes, which include a wider aperture and secure design for mailing larger items, converted to accept small and medium sized parcels. This innovation will make it both safe and convenient for small businesses and market place sellers to use. The meter postbox on Fairview Industrial Estate, RM13 8UH in Rainham will be converted.

Following this initial launch Royal Mail will consider adapting and updating other postboxes to the parcel postbox format.
