Becontree Intro

Becontree Stories

Jon is writing a book about the 100 year history of the becontree estate, which was the largest social housing project in the country at the time. It was a landmark development that shaped a generation, moving people from poor deteriorated housing in East London into a purpose built community. Jon want's to hear your family stories and memories about life on the becontree estate, from when it was first built to modern day.

Our Current Campaigns

Campaign for diesel production

Dagenham Diesel Centre produces 1 million engines annually and it employs 3,000 workers or contractors. It's at risk because of changes to the Government's approach to diesel. Clean diesel engines are the way forward and the Government needs to give its backing.

Battling Mini Moto Yobs

The scooter gang problem is escalating and the current 'no pursuit' policy just isn't going to allow the police to crackdown on these villains. My petition which only launched a few days ago already has well over 1,000 signatures. These gangs are an epidemic and this is one of the stand out issues... READ MORE

Fighting to save the A&E

You will know how long we have been fighting against proposals to close the A&E at King George Hospital in Goodmayes. We've been fighting for over 6 years. And if health bosses think we are losing heart then they had better think again. We're still here and we're still fighting. You may already... READ MORE

Hands off our Healthcare

Throughout my time as the MP I have consistently fought for our local NHS but over the years government cuts have resulted in the dramatic loss of services in Havering. The Mardyke surgery was closed and never replaced, services at Rainham and South Hornchurch have been reduced, the Mungo Park GP closed leaving over 3,000 residents having to travel further afield for appointments and now reports that the Spring Farm GP surgery in Upminster Road North is to close in the Spring.

The reduction of services has left Queen's Hospital under increasing pressure and enough is enough. I'm calling on NHS England and the government to deliver additional health facilities and services in Havering.

Protect Rainham's Air

At the end of 2018 I discovered proposals to build a mass waste incineration plant in Belvedere. Right on the banks of the Thames opposite Rainham.I am vehemently opposed to these plans.

I’m also incredibly concerned about the impact this development would have on air quality in Rainham and South Hornchurch; across the marshes, the village and all across the London Riverside Opportunity Area.

The Greater London Authority have said ‘incineration of solid waste can lead to emissions that are detrimental to human health and biodiversity.’ And that ‘these impacts would be widespread across Rainham.’

I don’t want the quality of life in the south of my constituency marred by poor air as a result of a Tory approved waste incineration plant.

If you feel the same, sign my petition against the proposal on my website:

Calling Time on Crime

Jon Cruddas MP has launched a campaign Calling Time on Crime.

This campaign comes as a response to rising violent crime across Dagenham and Rainham over the past 12 months. The Mayor of London is doing what he can to support the Met Police, but ultimately it is just a drop in the ocean compared to over £700m worth of Government cuts which have left us with 21,000 fewer police officers since 2010. We’re urging residents to sign Jon’s petition demanding that the government step up and give our police the support they need to keep our streets safe. Jon will be taking this petition to the Home Secretary when it hits 5,000. You can fill out his survey and sign the petition by clicking HERE

In the last seven years there have been two proposals to build a ‘super-prison’ in Dagenham & Rainham, and both times the community mobilised and knocked the plans back.
