Earlier this year Jon Cruddas MP surveyed Berwick Road and Thorn Lane following complaints from residents regarding the damage being caused to the carriageway by double decker busses. Whilst Transport for London have been unwilling to make changes to the bus route, Jon Cruddas has successfully lobbied Havering Council, who have agreed to resurface the roads in Spring 2022.
In a meeting back in August the Labour MP pressed TfL and Stagecoach to act and take the double decker buses off the 287 route through Upminster Road North to the terminus at Abbey Wood Lane. However, TfL have been unwilling to do this.
Jon said: “This is a great result although I know residents will be frustrated that TfL have flat out refused to switch the 287 to a single deck bus at this leg of the journey. I hope that improved road surfaces will make the situation better. New surfacing should help to minimise the vibrations being felt in people’s homes whilst I continue to lobby TfL in the new year.”
