On Tuesday 18th of September Havering College launched of their ?Plumbing Centre of Excellence.' The project is supported by SoPHE, The Society of Public Health Engineers, and its Contractors and Manufacturers Forums, CIPHE, Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers and JTL.

The aim is to create and develop professional and employable students with a strong desire to progress within this industry. Havering College is in a unique position by being the first FE College in London to bring to fruition the Centre of Excellence concept for plumbing.

Employers will support the students and teaching staff in a more practical and effective manner. There will be opportunities for staff to undertake work experience to ensure they are fully aligned with the newest technology and innovations being used today.

Jon Cruddas MP said: "I think it's fantastic that Havering College has been chosen as the college to pilot this project, local students from Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and even further afield will benefit highly from the industry experience they will gain."

"I feel this project is a win-win situation for students and industry professionals. With Brexit looming and uncertain times ahead we know there is a skills gap in this country. Programmes such as this one will help fill the gap and bring employment to many young men and women studying in this field. I congratulate Havering College on a successful launch."
