Corbets Tey at The Avelon is located in South Hornchurch Ward in Rainham and is an extension of Corbets Tey Specialist School in Upminster. Corbets Tey provide a flexible and personalised curriculum to students age 16-25 with additional and complex needs. Their aim is to provide a meaningful and relevant set of learning experiences which together provide an engaging curriculum, enabling both participation and achievement for all pupils - whilst preparing them for the future. Outcomes could include academic routes, work, supported living or a combination of some or all these elements.
Each young person attending the post 16 unit receives a bespoke mix of Functional Academic Study, Enterprise and/or Work Experience Opportunities and Community Access to develop social, communication and interaction skills as well as their own interests and abilities.
Corbets Tey at The Avelon is the only post 16 provision of its kind here in Rainham and are a huge asset to our community. Although their building is attached to The Avelon Centre (a day centre for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties) they run completely independent - with the main aim of the provision being to develop students' aspirations and potential and prepare them for their future. The staff are dedicated to helping students gain as many life skills as possible to prepare them for life outside of education.
