National Food Collection provides 5.1 million meals

Tesco's held their fourth National Food Collection earlier this month, in conjunction with the Trussell Trust who provide three days emergency to individuals and families who are in crisis, and FareShare who fight hunger and distribute food to local charities. The collection was in all Tesco's stores across the country and aimed to get enough food to provide 5 million meals for families across the country. Jon Cruddas, local MP for Dagenham and Rainham has supported the project in the past and always encourages local residents to come out in support of the National Food Collection.

The last collection, which was in December, was a phenomenal success, owing to the customers who played an major role by getting involved and also the staff working hard in the store(s). The National Food Collection currently provide over 4.3 million meals for those in need. The collection held on 3rd, 4th and 5th July collected enough food to provide 5.1 million meals to struggling families and individuals across the country.

Jon Cruddas MP, who works closely with all of the local food banks fully supports the work of FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

Jon commented: "With over 400,000 people turning to food banks nationally, projects like National Food Collection Day are becoming more and more important. Last year the local Tesco done a fantastic job and I hope that the people of Dagenham and Rainham have supported and donated again."
