Dagenham

Dagenham has a proud history - for years we built the cars that kept Britain moving, though the town's history goes right back to the Stone Age.

Dagenham is a great place to live, within easy reach of both central London and the countryside. The views from Marks Gate are some of the best in London, while the Thames Gateway represents a great opportunity for regeneration.

But too often in the past this community has been let down. For years we have been neglected and that is why my first job is to fight for Dagenham. We need more investment in our public services, for example our local schools and in the borough's many council homes.

We are dealing with a lot of change - the decline in car production, the strain on our council housing and now the effects of the world recession. We are not immune to what goes on in the world. But how we deal with this change will shape our future. I will use this website to keep you up to date on how I am working in the community to do that.

For more about the local area, you might find it useful to look at the council's website, for more information about Dagenham or to access local services.

We have established local police teams dedicated to each neighbourhood in Dagenham and you can look up your own Safer Neighbourhoods Team if you want to contact them about a local issue such as anti-social behaviour in your area. You should always dial 999 in an emergency though.

I have also been working hard to get investment in local NHS services, and the NHS website will let you find local services such as GPs, dentists, doctors or chemists.

For other public services you can always use DirectGov.
